Cividale del Friuli is an Italian municipality of 11,000 people in Friuli-Venezia Giulia. Founded by Giulio Cesare under the name of Forum Iulii, from which it took its name throughout the region, it became the Lombard city of Friuli.
Cividale del Friuli rises at the foot of the hills of eastern Friuli on the banks of the Natisone river, 17 km from Udine, on the road that connects the Friulian plain to the middle and upper Issonzo valley, in Slovenian territory. It covers an area of 49.50 km², from a minimum altitude of 97 meters to a maximum of 508 meters.
